A bit about this event

History Talk – History of the Hunters Hill Ferry system

14 April @ 2:30 pm

Be taken back to the days when ferries regularly plied the Lane Cove River Parramatta River with guest speaker Bill Allen (Commercial Manager for Sydney Ferries 1989-2006). Hear how the ferries linked communities together and provided important transport links when Hunters Hill roads were little better than dirt tracks.

Bills talk will concentrate on the ferries and wharves of Hunters Hill over the last 160 years.

The Bill Allen Collection comprises a comprehensive collection of photographs of Sydney’s Ferries from the 1800’s to the present.

Parramatta and Lane Cove River Ferries

17 ferries operated on the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers between 1885 and 1920.

They included Pelican, Swan, Nautilus, Eagle, Aleathea, Halcyon, Gannet, Cygnet, Lotus, Pheasant, Bronzewing, Birkenhead, Daphne, Lobella, Shamrock (later Wattle) and Pearl.
